Haitian Heroes

After learning about the devastating effects of the 2010 earthquake in Haiti, and seeing it first-hand, a friend decided to take action and help in the best way he knew how: telling the survivor's stories through words and photos.

The stories were initially translated from German to English by a non-native English speaker, and unfortunately were lacking a spark; it needed structure, more emotive language, and a strong point of view. I worked closely with the founders to give their nonprofit's story the framework it needed to capture and interest their target audience. The project culminated with an exhibit of all the stories in New York City, and I was happy to help the small start-up tell these stories.

Below is a sample story I edited for one of the survivors, 13 year old Cassandra. You can learn more about Haitian Heroes, read more stories and see pictures from the exhibition here.
